To determine the correct size of a buttonhole for shank buttons: Wrap a take measure around the entire head of the button (not the shank). Pinch the tape to get an accurate measurement. Fold the tape in half to determine cut size of the buttonhole opening. Don’t forget to add the length of the bar tacks at each end.
