Alterations on Down garments and comforters

Feathers usually come through when stitching down garments and comforters and are difficult to remove, since each feather pulls another one after it. This can be unsightly on dark fabrics.
Stitch with silk thread and a new sharp needle (not ball point) to minimize this problem.  And always stitch from the top (right) side of the item to force the feathers to the under (wrong) side.
To remove basting on down garments and comforters, cut the threads on the top side, then pull them through from the under side. If feathers do surface, they will be less noticeable.
